Introducing Bob
Sergeant/Rookie Driver for Mike Emhof Motorsports Racing has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. I recall going to the shop where Forrest Huff prepared his asphalt modified to race at Spencer Speedway, and I think I was about 6 years old at that time. I grew up watching Richie Evans, Maynard Troyer, and George Kent race at Spencer. Then somewhere along the line I got into DIRT racing. Rolling Wheels became the new place to visit on Friday nights. After spending several years as a spectator at local DIRT tracks, I got to know Charlie Donk and his crew, mainly because my Uncle, Ron Boise, was on his pit crew. I started hanging around Charlie’s shop and going to the tracks where he raced. As my interest grew, Charlie invited me to become a member of the pit crew. That occupied my time for nearly seven years. I can’t begin to put into words how much I learned about race cars, shocks, tires, and set-ups in those seven years. I always had the urge to get behind the wheel of a race car, but the time, commitment, and financial backing required were always too overwhelming for me to start a race team. In 1999, I decided that I could no longer make myself available four or five nights per week to work on race cars. I certainly still wanted to be involved with racing, but on a more limited schedule. I received a call from Mike Emhof to attend a few of the CNYMS races. I’ve been to a handful of his races over the past couple of seasons, and started to think that the Mini-Sprint class might be a great place for me to finally fulfill a life-long dream. And once again, it was a call from Mike to make it all happen. Knowing how much I wanted to pilot a race car, Mike has decided to field a car for me to drive at selected local tracks on the CNYMS tour. I can’t begin to thank him enough for giving me this opportunity, and I look forward to working and learning from him in the upcoming 2003 racing season. |
